The Prince’s Trust Awards 2024
On Tuesday the 21st of May we celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Prince’s Trust Awards at the prestigious Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
In partnership with TK Maxx and Homesense, the Awards showcase the impact of The Trust’s work in helping young people build the confidence and skills needed to get into a job, education, training or self-employment. Many of the winners have overcome significant barriers to transform their lives and build brighter futures for themselves and their communities. More than just a ceremony the awards allow us to recognize the effort of the remarkable young people who have taken part in our programmes and our volunteers and to share their stories on a global stage.
A star-studded event
We were delighted to have UK television presenters Ant and Dec, who are also working with the Trust on the Ant & Dec Making it in Media programme, host the award ceremony for the 12th year now.
They were joined on stage among others by Martin Freeman, Kate Garraway, Tasha Ghouri and Clara Amfo to present the 7 national awards.
The achievements of the international programmes were recognised in 3 global categories, introduced by Global Ambassador Edward Enninful OBE.
Arti, winner of the Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award, arrived in style on the red carpet in a pink rickshaw and was joined on stage by Ambassador for Enterprise Charlotte Tilbury who is sponsoring the award. During Arti’s week in London Amal shared a special in-person meeting with her to celebrate Arti’s achievements.
Ridwan, winner of the Global Sustainability Award sponsored by Octopus Energy, was presented his award by our Trust ambassador DJ Cuppy, Christina Hess from Octopus Energy and rugby player Maro Itoje. He also received a very special surprise video message from Idris Elba congratulating him on his win.
Tyson, winner of the Global Young Achiever Award, had an equally exciting day. From meeting DJ Cuppy to exchange some insights about music production and making it in the industry to giving a live performance of his song Diva and sharing that the song made it onto a big national radio station. After presenting him the award DJ Cuppy said: “Tyson is phenomenal. He’s unique, and so many creatives are but what stands out for me is his resilience and the spirit he has. I think that same spirit that brought [him] on this stage is what’s going to take [him] far in the entertainment industry.”
The ceremony finished with actor Damien Lewis reading a personal letter from our Royal Founding President King Charles III and a special performance by Pixie Lott.
Meet Our Winners
Arti, Winner of the Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award
Young mother Arti (19) has broken the mould to become one of the first pink e-rickshaw drivers in her district in Uttar Pradesh, providing safe, eco-friendly transport for other women, and inspiring other girls in her village. She is, quite literally, driving change. Project Lehar gave Arti the chance to build her skills and confidence, open her eyes and broaden her horizons, enabling her to see, and then believe, that working for herself could be an option. Arti’s leap into mobile self-employment has broken through multiple social barriers and is a trailblazing step forward for women’s physical and social mobility. In 2024, Arti received the prestigious Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award.
Ridwan, Winner of the Global Sustainability Award
Our Global Sustainability Award winner Ridwan had always aspired to a green job, but after graduating he struggled to break into the sector and secure his first position. The Get Into Renewable Energy programme provided a pathway to work and Ridwan, 27, is now a key figure at market-leading Starsight Energy. Through his groundbreaking work designing and delivering solar energy systems, especially in off-grid rural areas, Ridwan is bringing light and power to countless Nigerians.
Tyson, Winner of the Global Young Achiever Award
Tyson is a talented self-taught musician and producer who runs his own music production company. His success comes after years of fighting against the odds, defying the demons of a childhood scarred by hardship. In 2024, Tyson was named the Prince’s Trust Global Young Achiever. The Enterprise programme, delivered by Prince’s Trust Aotearoa New Zealand, provided Tyson with the knowledge, mentoring, networking and financial support to grow his fledgeling business.
A royal invitation
Following the awards, all winners and Celebrity Ambassadors attended a special reception with our Royal Founding President King Charles III at Buckingham Palace to celebrate their achievements.
The awards honour the successes of those who have been helped by the Trust and those who support them, in the UK and around the world. We’re so proud of everything the young people and volunteers have achieved.
